The Rotary Club of Penticton Sunrise understands the importance of our community’s youth and wishes to recognize outstanding students for unique combinations of achievement in scholastics, extracurricular activities, community involvement, leadership and service to others.  While academic and athletic achievements are often recognized in the school, these other areas also deserve recognition and are the focus of this initiative.
The program is meant to promote success in and out of the classroom.  For a student to be a well-respected citizen, they must be able to balance many different areas of life.  The Rotary Club of Penticton Sunrise is partnering with Penticton Secondary School and Princess Margaret Secondary School to select those students who have overcome problems, made significant gains in their lives, and are examples for others to follow.  This initiative has been made possible with the generous financial contribution from Cascades Casino Penticton (Jan 2016-May 2020) as part of their proactive involvement in wide ranging community service projects.
Rotary Students of the Month will be nominated monthly from October to May by each school alternately.  They will be invited to speak to the Rotary Club members during a regular meeting where they will receive their award.  Each student will receive a “Student of the Month” certificate and a $100 gift certificate to Staples for school/computer supplies.  A plaque with the student’s picture will be displayed in the school for the month.  The selected students will be featured with pictures and stories in local media as well as in the school, Rotary Club and sponsor social media.
