Dr. Mac Paterson - COVID-19:Update

Dr. Malcolm Paterson, President of Penticton Sunrise Rotary Club is a retired molecular oncologist, residing in Okanagan Falls, BC.   Dr. Paterson spent his entire career, spanning 40 years in five countries on three continents, in cancer research.    He was involved in the SARS- CoronaVirus outbreak in Singapore in 2003 and will update us on recent developments in Covid 19 virus variants, vaccine developments and herd immuity in his talk entitled:

"COVID-19:Global efforts to defeat a stealth invader"

Dennis is the coordinator of the Penticton Sunrise Rotary Student of the Month Program and will be introducing our February Student of the Month from Princess Margaret School.

We will also be joined by a former Inbound Youth Exchange student who will share details of their life since living in Penticton on their Rotary Exchange.

Rick McKelvey

"Polar Bear"

Rick McKelvey is a retired wildlife biologist who has lived in Penticton since 2005. He worked for the Canadian Wildlife Service for over 30 years, leaving that organization as the Manager of the Pacific Wildlife Research Centre before moving to Penticton. He served as the Manager of the South Okanagan Simikameen Conservation Program from 2005 until 2007, and subsequently worked as a consultant until 2010. Since moving to Penticton Rick has continued to be active in the field of biology, most extensively working with the Friends of the Oxbows to ensure the Penticton oxbows are preserved and rejuvenated. He has also served on a number of advisory committees to the City of Penticton, and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Burrowing Owl Conservation Society. In the winter he skis and snowshoes, and in the summer he mountain bikes and hikes.
